1. Open the Product Properties screen
Go to Product Properties and locate one of your Sidelines items.
2. Find the “Label Type” field
On the Basic Detail tab, about halfway down the screen, you’ll find the field labeled Label Type. This dropdown lists all label names created in Tools → Administration → Designers → Product Label Formats.
3. Choose your Sidelines label
From the dropdown, select the label format designed specifically for Sidelines—for example, Sideline_2x1, Sideline_Color, or whatever name you assigned in the Label Designer.
4. Save your change
Click Save (or press F10). The product record is now tagged with the selected label type.
Printing Behavior
When you print labels (from Receiving, Product Maintenance, or a label batch), [i]merchant checks the Label Type assigned to each product:
• If a specific Label Type is set, it prints using that format.
• If not, the system defaults to the store’s standard format as defined in Tools → Parameters → Store Number → Label Defaults.
Tip for Consistency
If many Sidelines items share the same label format, you can update them all at once:
1. Go to Tools → Administration → Database Maintenance → Global Edits → Globally Edit Products → Label Type.
2. Use the Find Product screen to retrieve the products you want to update.
3. Check the Label Type field to assign your Sidelines label format in bulk, then click Next.
4. Click the dropdown arrow to select the format you want to apply.
5. Select Next again to update the selected records.
Every Sidelines product you update will now print using your new label layout automatically.
