Updated on

The Register program is where you set up and create the register information in your store.

For a register to be active, you need to set it up here first.

To access the Register parameter:

  • Select Tool > Administration > Parameters
  • From the list of parameters
  • Select Register.
  • The Register parameter program will open.

Create New Register

To create a new register:

  • In the Register program,
  • Click on the File menu at the top of the screen.
  • A pulldown submenu displays.
  • From the submenu,
  • Select New >Parameter.
  • The Register Properties screen will appear.
    • This is where you set up the information for the register you are creating.

Register Property Screen

The Register Properties screen has an assortment of fields.

You need to fill these in to establish the guidelines for the new register.

Code: Key in the code for the register.

  • This can be alpha numeric, just alpha, or just numeric.
  • If you named the register "Register 1," the code may simply be "1".
  • If you named it "Forever Sunshine," then the code may be "SUN".
  • Choose a code that makes sense to you.
  • Each code must be unique.
  • You cannot have two registers with the same code.

Description: Key in the description (or name) of the register.

  • You can enter anything that makes sense to you.

Store: Select the store where the register is located.

Register Number: Key in the number for the register.

  • Simple enough, just be sure that no two registers are assigned the same number.

Tax Area: Select the default Tax Area for this register.

  • The Tax Area selected here is the default at this POS register.
  • If the clerk needs to change the Tax Area during a sale, he or she can still do that.
  • Then, when the next sale begins, the Tax Area again defaults to what is defined here.

***NOT NEEDED?***

PC Charge: Determine whether PC Charge is active and functional for this register. If it is not, leave the field blank. If it is, click on the arrow to the right of the field and select PC Charge from the list that appears.

In the PC Charge User field:

  • If PC Charge is active for this register, key in the PC Charge username for this register. PC Charge will have provided you with this username. If PC Charge is not active for this register, simply leave the field blank.

Default Sale Type: Determine the sale type that should be the default for this register.

  • The clerk can always change a default during a particular sale.
  • The default just represents the type of sale most prevalent at this register.
  • If you need to add a Sale Type to the list, you can do so while at the Sale Typescreen.
    • Select File > New > Parameter from the top of the screen
    • Create a new Sale Type by entering a code and a description.

Customer Prompt: is a checkbox field.

  • Checked = at the POS, the Find Customer screen will automatically pop up at the beginning of each sale at this POS register.
  • Unchecked = the POS clerk will need to initiate the Find Customer screen when desired.

Prompt for Reward Membership if Non-Member: is a checkbox field.

  • Checked = at the POS, a prompt will automatically appear when a customer is selected during a transaction if that customer is not already an existing member of a Reward program.
    • The POS clerk can then select Yes and the Rewards Property screen will appear.

Show Reward Status on Customer Selection: is a checkbox field as well.

  • Checked = at the POS, a message box will automatically appear showing the status of each of the selected customer's reward programs.
    • If membership in any of the Reward programs has expired, the Customer Reward Properties screen will launch instead of the status message.

Force User to Sign-in Between Sales: is a checkbox field, too.

Checked = the POS clerk at the register in question will be automatically forced to sign in between each sale.

Default Receipt Printer: Select which printer (the POS Printer or the Report Printer) will be the default for this POS register.

Timeout after: you can key in a number, or leave the field set to zero.

If kept at zero, there is no timeout feature at the POS.

If you do key in a number, however, POS will time out if the number of seconds you key in here takes place between sales.

By timing out, the POS will log the clerk out if Drawer Management is off

If Drawer Management is active, it will lock the drawer but keep the clerk signed in.

To enable the prompt to ask for demographic data, confirm the checkbox in yellow is checked.

When checked, users will see this prompt before the sale.

Delete a Register Code

To delete a Register code from your system:

  • Select the record you wish to delete from the grid at the bottom of the Find screen.
  • The Properties window appears.
  • Select Edit > Delete from the menu at the top of the screen.
  • A prompt asks you if want to delete the record from the system.
  • Click on Yes
