How to generate ‘kits’ of sub-products to be sold as new (combined) products.
Overview
Frequently a store would like to sell a composite of several unique items from the store’s inventory as a single item. This is relatively easy to do and keep vendors, products, costs, etc., straight for the individual products with their own unique purchasing, sales, and returns history as well as those same items as part of a ‘kit’.
Determine what inventory will be included in the new composite part.
Product Number Description Cost Retail
GWCAP256-BLACK Dog Mom Black 5.00 12.99
9781942557555 Book: Puppy Steps 10.2543 17.99
4025-DOG Diner Mug Dog Mom 5.50 11.99
20.7543 42.97
Building the (assembled) Part.
Generate a new product name and let the system generate a product number for the new product. The vendor and publisher for the new product will be the store vendor.
Description: New Dog Mom Gift Set
Product Number: 536903 (system generated)
Vendor: BILLINGS FARM in House Gift Set
Publisher/Manufacturer: BILLINGS FARM in House Gift Set
Cost: 20.7543
Retail: 42.97
Purchasing of the sub-assembly parts:
Purchase the sub-parts as you normally do. Order a quantity from a vendor, receive them in. These sub-parts will subsequently be ‘returned’ to a vendor (BILLINGS FARM in House Gift Set) to relieve the inventory of their counts and costs. This process correctly shows the parts being ordered and received and their subsequent costs and retail values so that the vendor may be paid for their product(s).
The vendor they are returned to will be a store vendor with a unique name (BILLINGS FARM in House Gift Set) and vendor short name (BFGS) generally referencing the store name kit vendor.
If building 5 ‘kits’, then you would have to purchase 5 of each sub-part from their normal vendor, and subsequently, ‘return’ each of those subparts to the store vendor.
Once product is ‘returned’ to the new store vendor, a PO is generated to the store vendor to receive all the sub-parts as the new kit name. (536903 New Dog Mom Gift Set)
The pricing (costs) of the new kit is based on the consolidated cost of the sub-parts. (5.00 + 10.2543 +5.50 = 20.7543)
The retail (selling price) of the new kit is based on the consolidated retail value of the sub-parts. (12.99 + 17.99 + 11.99 = 42.97)
