- Create a folder called ‘Computac on the ‘C’ drive of the PC/server where [i]merchant is to be run and copy the contents of the folder that was downloaded from the Computac ftp site to this location.
- Install SQL 2012 Express. From the Computac folder open the [i]merchantSQL2012installer13.04.01a folder and run ‘setup.exe’. This installs an [i]merchant utility that will install and configure SQL Server Express and restore the [i]merchant database.
- Launch the [i]merchant SQL installer program from the all programs menu. Select ‘Install SQL 2012 Express’. This will launch the Microsoft SQL server Express installation program and automatically configure SQL for [i]merchant. Exit after the install is complete.
- Launch the [i]merchant SQL installer program from the all programs menu again. Select ‘Restore [i]merchant Database’, put in password ‘ComputacSQL2012’ and browse to the backup file in the Computac folder. The Database name is typically named “imerchant”. Click Restore.
- Go to the Computac folder and install POS for .Net v1.12. Take all the defaults.
- Install [i]merchant: from the Computac folder open the [i]merchant folder (release #.##.##) and run ‘Setup.Exe’. (This will install the .Net Framework if needed, and [i]merchant in C\program files\Computac Inc\[i]merchant.) Accept the defaults.
- Go into the [i]merchant location (C:\program files\Computac\[i]merchant) and go down to the Connection Manager and open it. Put in: Connection Name – Default; User ID – sa; Password – ComputacSQL2012; Database – xxxxxx; Server Name – XXXXX\IMERCHANTSQL where XXXXX is the server name as shown in SQL Express. Click on Test Connection which should return ‘Connection Okay’ and then click Save Connection. Close the Connection Manager.
- On the desktop double click the [i]merchant icon and log in.
- Register the PC: Upon opening [i]merchant there will be a message to register the PC. Say yes. The screen entries can be left blank, except for Register where #2 can be added using the drop down selection (binoculars) and a report printer if desired. Again the drop down box will show the printers on the PC. One can be selected as a default. Save the entry.

Confirm you have setup nightly backups, Above the Treeline Exports and EDI settings are confirmed.
Note: Venstock (books-in-print database) and Help are maintained at Computac, Inc.,
so the PC must have an Internet connection to access them.
