Making a Sale Tax Exempt

Updated on

To make all items in a transaction tax exempt:

  • Prior to tendering the transaction
  • Click on the Function Menu button
  • Select Tax Exempt from the menu.
  • The Tax Exempt window appears.
  • Enter the Tax Exempt ID and check the appropriate boxes.
    • There are four check boxes at the left of the window
    • Each one representing a level of tax (i.e., state, county, etc.).
    • Check the boxes you want to be tax exempt.
      • If you only want the state tax to be exempt
        • Check the State Portion check box.

If you want to check all boxes

  • Click on the Check All button at the bottom of the window.

If you want to clear any and all check boxes of their checkmarks

  • Click on the Clear button.

To accept the exemptions you have set,

  • Click on the OK button.

You will be returned to the POS main transaction screen, and the items in the sale will now be tax exempt according to the guidelines you established in the Tax Exempt window.

Prior to tendering the transaction, you can, of course, go back into the Tax Exempt window and alter any guidelines you established if you need to.

Note: If you call up a specific customer during the POS transaction who already has tax exempt guidelines associated with him, those guidelines will kick in immediately and automatically. You can still change them, though, using the Tax Exempt button.
