Updated on

  1. Create a folder called ‘Computac on the ‘C’ drive of the PC/server where [i]merchant is to be run and copy the contents of the folder that was downloaded from the Computac ftp site to this location.
  1. Install SQL Express 2008 R2. From the Computac folder open the [i]merchantSQL2008R2Installer13.03.01 folder and run ‘setup.exe’. This installs an [i]merchant utility that will install and configure SQL Server Express and restore the [i]merchant database.
  1. Launch the [i]merchant SQL installer program from the all programs menu. Select ‘Install SQL 2008R2’. This will launch the Microsoft SQL server Express installation program and automatically configure SQL for [i]merchant. Exit after the install is complete.
  1. Launch the [i]merchant SQL installer program from the all programs menu again. Select ‘Restore [i]merchant Database’, put in password ‘ComputacSQL2008’ and browse to the backup file in the Computac folder. The Database name is typically named “imerchant”.  Click Restore.
  1. Go to the Computac folder and install POS for .Net v1.12. Take all the defaults.
  1. Install [i]merchant: from the Computac folder open the [i]merchant  folder (release #.##.##) and run ‘Setup.Exe’. (This will install the .Net Framework if needed, and [i]merchant in C\program files\Computac Inc\[i]merchant.) Accept the defaults.
  1. Go into the [i]merchant location (C:\program files\Computac\[i]merchant) and go down to the Connection Manager and open it. Put in: Connection Name – Default; User ID – sa; Password – ComputacSQL2008; Database – xxxxxx; Server Name – XXXXX\IMERCHANTSQL where XXXXX is the server name as shown in SQL Express. Click on Test Connection which should return ‘Connection Okay’ and then click Save Connection. Close the Connection Manager.
  1. On the desktop double click the [i]merchant icon and log in as imadmin with password computac.
  1. Register the PC: Upon opening [i]merchant there will be a message to register the PC. Say yes. The screen entries can be left blank, except for Register where #2 can be added using the drop down selection (binoculars) and a report printer if desired. Again the drop down box will show the printers on the PC. One can be selected as a default. Save the entry.

***Note***: Venstock (books-in-print database) and Help are maintained at Computac, Inc. so the PC must have an Internet connection to access them.
