These steps are to be performed on the PC being configured with POS closed
- Install the Logic Control USB support package to create a virtual com port. This step is not needed if you are converting an existing OPOS printer to a windows printer.
- Remove the current Logic Control OPOS for .net software from the system if one exists:
- Go Control Panel, Add/Remove Software.
- Find the Logic Controls OPOS for .net entry. (I am not sure of the exact name)
- Remove the software.
- Identify the virtual com port currently being used by the display post:
- Press the Windows Start button and select Devices and Printers
- There should be a line in the unspecified area that is labeled LCI Line Display.
- Make a note of the device name and COM port number in parentheses. This will be used latter.
- Add the display post as a printer.
- Press the Windows Start button and select Devices and Printers
- Select Add a Print on the top of the page.
- Choose Add a local printer.
- On the Choose a port screen select the “Use existing port” radio button.
- Use the pull down menu on the port and select the port that was found above. This will most likely just say COMx.
- Press Next.
- Select the manufacturer “Generic”
- Select the printer “Generic / Text Only”
- Press Next.
- If you are prompted to update the driver select Use Current Driver.
- Give the printer a name. I called mine “Display Post”.
- Select Next
- Choose Do not share this printer.
- Select next.
- Uncheck the “Set as Default Printer” box.
- Print a test page and the page should write messages across the display.
- Select Finish.
- Change the PC settings to use the new display post:
- Launch [i]merchant
- Select Tools, Administration, PC Settings
- Find the PC you are on and select properties.
- Change the Display Post to “WindowsPost” and make sure the Use box is checked.
- In the right box, change the POS Display Post Printer to the printer we just added.
- Set the characters per line to 20.
- Save the Settings.
- Select Test Devices and test the display post, you should see a test message.
If for some reason the post does not work.
Make sure you uncheck the Use box next to the display post before starting the register.
